Natural characteristics - technical abilities
Man - part of nature and part of the living and working world he himself has created. Contrast or harmony? How should the world of work be designed to take his physiological needs into consideration?
Visiting the "Living Space - World of Work", you will be surprised! It almost looks like a botanical garden! You are surrounded by ferns. Plants which have been growing on Earth for millions of years and have grown during the evolution of mankind. These ferns have been arranged to form a huge hand - a scene intended to illustrate how man and his culture is integrated into the natural process of evolution.
For man, the hand was an enormous advantage in the race of evolution. Others were still walking on all fours, man could stand up. His hands were free. With them, he could grasp and shape the world! Gripping, touching, feeling. The new impressions had an inspirational and stimulating effect on the brain.
Many things then became possible. News ideas could be put into practice. Man himself and civilisation were developing. He created an artificial world. He acquired mental, intellectual, physical and social skills, a culture. At the same time he still remains a product of nature, equipped with natural abilities, characteristics and needs to be exploited and used to their full potential. During his long history, man was successful only as a complete being… Just sitting in front of a computer until the eyes are square and the back begins to hurt? If the success story of human evolution is to continue, the present and the future working world will need to occupy a person as a whole. Work must be organised so as to involve all the senses. They too need to be trained and exercised regularly to remain healthy! Technology which ignores peoples needs and wastes his potential is neither humane nor economical.
Knowledge is absorbed through the senses in co-ordination with the brain. New is connected to old, sorted and interpreted and can be recalled whenever needed. If the input ceases or is one-sided, development comes to a standstill.
