The precursor of the computer

In 1805, Frenchman Joseph Marie Jacquard (1752-1834) invented a punch-card controlled weaving loom which could be used to make sophisticated patterns as often as was needed. Long before the digital age, he had developed a mechanism which worked according to the Yes/No or 0/1 principle. The inkle loom that we have on display weaves the DASA logo at 13 different speeds.
